La Licorne

ART  on  the  UNICORNS

As said, La Licorne means The Unicorn or One Horn, the mystifying creature from time to time being seen in different parts of the world.

Maybe, I am one. As a hint: try to locate the wind vane that crowns the tower of La Licorne in Bokhoven. It is gold plated to show the visitor the way from far. Yes, it figures a Unicorn

In appearance La Licorne resembles a small horse with long legs, split hoofs, and furry manes and tail. She allows only the true virgin to approach her, and will then rest her head in the ladies' lap or conveniently against her bosom.

She is considered equal -or even superior- to human beings. (Anyway, that is not too grave a competition.)

The Unicorn has inspired poets and artists of design alike. In their works the Unicorn invariably figures as gentle, noble, courageous, immortal and invulnerable.

I am presenting some illustrated poems assembled from different sources. One on how an infant and the unicorn are growing up together; the other about the hunt after the unicorn, with the input of a virgin for a bait.

And -neither last nor least- La Licorne has inspired designers to create motor-vehicles of their liking, shaping them after their finest taste
